Ólafur Arnalds In the Flow

Our Artist of the Month of October is Ólafur Arnalds, who himself is a meditator. We have discovered that Ólafur's music makes meditation feel more natural, personal and accessible. Flow has received special permission from Ólafur to use his song, "þú ert Jörðin" for our guided meditation "Calm for clarity".

Ólafur has collaborated with our Art Directors Arni & Kinski multiple times, and is a supporter of meditation in general.

Meditating to music by Ólafur Arnalds

The music of Ólafur Arnalds is perfect for meditation. Ólafur's songs like Saman, Near Light and Re:member have often found their way into our Flow playlists - and you can find all of them on our Spotify Channel.

We even have a special playlist dedicated to his music, called Flow with Ólafur Arnalds. There is a song for each of the six modes of Flow:

  • Breathe - Beth's Theme

  • Move - Ekki Hugsa,

  • Let Go - To Die For

  • Calm - Saman

  • Focus - Near Light

  • Restore - Dalur

We added the songs Re:member; Particles; For Now I am Winter; 20:17; and Blurred, for kicks. ;-)

Creative directors Arni & Kinski's collaboration with Ólafur Arnalds

We have a history working with Ólafur. Ólafur's collaboration with Flow Art Directors Arni & Kinski goes back a few years to when they made their first video together for Kiasmos, Ólafur's band with Janus Rasmussen. The video for the Kiasmos song, "Blurred" was shot in the Faroe Islands and tells the story of two lovers connecting through the Faroese legendary traditional chain dance.

The next video they created was for "Ekki Hugsa" shot in Reykjavik with dancer and choreographer Hannes Þór Egilsson and others from Ísklenski Dansflokkurinn. The dance piece was originally shown live at Norður og Niður at Harpa Concert Hall, right next to where Flow exhibited Flow VR version 1.0, launched on Oculus Go for the first time in December 2018.

The latest collaboration between Ólafur and Flow Art Directors Arni & Kinski was the recent video, "Back to the Sky". The same dancer from "Ekki Hugsa", Una Yamamoto Barkadóttir plays a leading role again, this time opposite actor and artist, Sturla Atlas.

We are so grateful for the magical collaboration between Ólafur Arnalds and Flow. Music is one of the greatest tools we know for enabling meditation, and is a huge factor in what makes Flow unique and transformative. Meditate now and feel the difference!
